To do this the regional team carry out a number of ad hoc pieces of research in order to look at visitor profiles, visitor expenditure, satisfaction and the attractions and areas which are the key drivers for their visit.
One of the main pieces of work, undertaken to learn more about our visitors, is the regional visitor survey which was first carried out between October 2005 and September 2006. A second survey was done between April and September 2008. Reports are available for the region and the four sub regions.
Spend data taken from this survey was used to feed into volume and value reports giving a more accurate picture of tourism in the North East.
Another area of importance for the regions tourism economy is the Group Travel Market which was evaluated in detail looking at the market as a whole and also breaking it down into specific areas such as Education and the Luxury Group Market.
Research was undertaken with people who requested the North East Holiday Guide and then chose not to visit the region. This piece of work investigated their reasons for not visiting and any potential barriers that prevented people heading to the region. This report is available here.
In the days of advancements in technology and changing consumer attitudes, the Regional Team are constantly looking to evaluate how consumers are being inspired to take trips, researching their trip and booking. This work gives an insight into the role of holiday guides in the current climate.
This report gives an insight into those visitors who request the North East England Holiday Guide but do not go on to visit the region. The report highlights perceptions and barriers which the North East faces in attracting some markets.
